Upgrading firmware on a DSLR camera is completely new experience for me. Canon has released new firmware for my Canon EOS 7D and today I will install it.
I prefer Canon’s USA website to visit and download software. Canon has created a special page dedicated for the new 2.x firmware where they summarize the new features and provide a comparison from the previous version.
With the current version I have no issues, still I believe to follow the latest updates in general. 7D has professional features and keeping up with the latest firmware ensures the best performance and stability.

De 65e editie van de Dwars door Dordt loop vond plaats op zondag 1 april 2012. Wederom een mooie gelegenheid voor iso2010nl om foto’s te gaan maken.

It took me a year to make the decision to buy an L lens from the Canon series. I bought the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS USM lens from one of the biggest stores (camera.nu) for photographers in the Netherlands.
I had one week off, and my wife and I planned to have quality time together close to the store, so I took the opportunity to get the lens directly instead of waiting.

After watching some Canon 7D videos on YouTube I learned a couple of new settings for my Canon 7D. I decided to go for a short photo-walk and seek out some images with these new settings. The result in 15 minutes is amazing. Nice sunset, colorful buildings and perspective harbor poles.
AF point selection: Spot AF made a big difference in getting sharp, precisely focused shots. The golden hour light in Dordrecht is perfect for street photography.

Last month while staying in China I was able to combine business with pleasure and got the opportunity to visit Forbidden City in Beijing. It took me almost 4 hours to complete the walk from the beginning to the end of the Forbidden City palace.
I was lucky the weather conditions were perfect to enjoy the sight and take a nice walk to photograph. I borrowed my co-worker Micha Sulman’s 70-300mm lens and started to take some nice pictures. I captured faces of strangers and had a lot of fun doing that. The result is an amazing set of 15 pictures which I am sharing.

Last month while combining business with pleasure I visited the Great Wall of China at Badaling. Before going to the wall I visited the Ming Dynasty Tombs where I learned how cold it can be. The temperature was around -10 degrees and the wall was scheduled after lunch. During this time of year (January) it can be very cold.
The tour started at 1PM and I had two hours to walk and explore the Great Wall. It was even colder than at the Ming Tombs with the cold mountain winds. I took some nice pictures and one panorama at the end. Thanks to Scott Kelby’s tips this time the panorama worked out perfectly.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon my wife and I enjoyed the November sunshine at Kinderdijk. Kinderdijk is one of those places in the Netherlands where most tourists come while visiting. It is a beautiful area and a perfect location to take some pictures during our walk there.
Kinderdijk is a village in the Netherlands, belonging to the municipality of Nieuw-Lekkerland, in the province South Holland, about 15 km east of Rotterdam. Kinderdijk is situated in a polder at the confluence of the Lek and Noord rivers. To drain the polder, a system of 19 windmills was built around 1740. This group of mills is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands.

Last week my wife and I visited Frankfurt. We had no luck and had a lot of rain during this weekend. Anyhow I was able to take some nice pictures with my Canon 7D.
Frankfurt am Main is Germany’s financial capital and home to the European Central Bank. Despite the rain, the autumn colours in the city parks and along the Main river made for some great photography opportunities. The wet cobblestones reflected the street lights beautifully.

A couple of days ago I bought my Canon EOS 7D at Foka (Rotterdam). I was really excited and couldn’t wait to take my first photos with it. The camera produces amazing quality. It came with the standard 18-135mm lens and the quality is just perfect.
The Canon EOS 7D is a significant upgrade from my previous Canon 400D. The 18MP APS-C sensor, 8fps burst mode and improved autofocus system make it a real workhorse for sports and action photography.

After Canon 60D was released I took more time to compare the new model with Canon 7D which was released last year. Based on the available specifications, making the decision was much easier for me before 60D was out.
Of course the price and new features are both important but the AF system and camera body made me decide to go for the 7D model. 7D is quicker, viewfinder coverage is 100% and the 19-point cross type Auto Focus System makes the camera a real upgrade from my 400D.

For several months I read various tweets and posts on the Internet about the new Canon EOS 60D. Officially it was not announced but many people already expected the launch on 26th of August. Last Thursday my Google Alerts started to show up in my Inbox on pages containing “canon 60d”. Finally all specs and first pictures of 60D were available.
I am very excited to see this new model on the market. I hope the camera will be soon available in the Netherlands.

How many times did you leave your camera at home or at the hotel room when being outside or traveling? It isn’t always convenient to take all your camera gear with you. I personally missed a lot of beautiful moments just because I did not take my camera with me. I don’t like my camera suitcase and then I only have my iPhone with me.
The solution for me was to buy a camera strap from BlackRapid. I purchased the RS-7 which is extensible with their MODS system. The RS-7 fits perfectly around my shoulder and the camera is safe and secure. One important thing is to pay attention not hitting things while having the camera on the strap. A couple of times I almost hit some people with it but other than that a perfect solution for me and always having my camera with me! Check out the details and video below.
